| Guide | So you answered the call to take back London from the hands of evil. You are now prepared to fight the ravaging demons that have dried the rivers, destroyed homes, and blackened the sky with the ashes of fellow humans. It's time to become a hero. But as with other hero, you have to start somewhere. Welcome to Russell Square!
RUSSELL SQUARE
Regardless of the class/faction you choose as your first Hellgate: London character, you will have to start where everyone else takes off: Russell Square. You start off in a desolate alley with no signs of human life. It resembles that of a war-torn London with no remnants from its glorious past. Upon setting foot in Rusell Square, you will receive a transmission signal from a man named Murmur. You will notice several zombies roaming about while you get a briefing from the mysterious man at the other end of the line.
Murmur starts to talk about Seraphim, the first among the Order's champion. He then tells you that while he was foraging, the demons came and started to wreak havoc. Templar Seraph and his men took the brunt of the attack. He then tells you that Seraph and his men carry vital information that needs to be secured. Unfortunately, the attack has caused some problems in securing the vital info.
Before you get into the bigger problem, what you first need to do is find Murmur. He's just somewhere in the back alleys and finding him is easy. But the point of looking for him is to familiarize yourself with the basic controls by blowing up (or slashing) zombies that seem to take their sweet time in attacking you.
Breaking Stuff
If you look at your inventory, you will realize how bare it is. You only have the basic stuff like the Basic Health Injector, your vest, pants, and your weapons. At this point in the game, you won't have access to vendors for your supply needs. But what you can do is to break boxes, crates, trash cans and bins or anything that you see on the streets. Some of these boxes will drop items that you can loot. Here are some examples of items that drop:
Basic Powerpack - Restores 20 Power/sec for 3 seconds; 1,200/min Power Regeneration
Basic Health Injector - Restores 30 Health/sec for 3 seconds
Personal Relocation Device - Returns the use to last station visited
Woodman's Pants - Provides armor protection on the lower torso
Palladium - "money" used to buy items
These items may not be much in value nor in use, but they do help you get by in the early stages of the game. They will come in handy as you advance quests. And as you keep picking up these items, you will find Murmur. After thanking you, he then tells you to move along and find Knight Acthau. This time, Murmur will go with you.
Fawke's Communique
As you move further down the streets, you will find an almost lifeless human. He only has just enough energy to tell you about Dr. Fawkes device (or Fawke's Communique). This contains vital information. Your mission is to bring word to Lann about Fawke's Communique. You must take the device and make your way to the Covent Garden Station. Note that if you don't take the device, the entrance to the Covent Garden Station will remain closed.
COVENT GARDEN STATION
This is where it gets a little busy. As you go down the station, you will again meet Murmur who will then tell you that in order to get to Lann, you will need to gain acess to the Covent Garden Approach. Unfortunately, the gateway is shut. This is just your cue to complete the first quest found in the station.
Techsmith 101 Quest
Techcsmith 101 needs some assistance to get the door open, and in turn, this will allow you to reach Lann in Covent Garden Station and complete the Seraph's mission. To open the door, you will have to get 8 capacitors to power the device. These capacitors can be found in the Holborn Access Shafts. Completing the quest will give you 400 XP and 55 Paladium.
George's Quests
There's also a curious looking NPC named George in the station. He mumbles a lot but he has some work for you. He's asking you to kill 10 Zombies running aroung the Tottenham Court Road. If you complete the quest, you get 200 XP and 55 Paladium.
After you complete the first quest, he will then give you another quest called "Night of the Zombies". Typhoid Mary roams in Covent Garden Approach but she won't linger long because she desires humans. You need to kill Typhoid Mary in order to stop her from reaching HOlborn. Once completed, you will get 400 XP and 55 Paladium
Wart's Quests
If you started playing when the game was released, you will know that Wart was previously named "Joey", but after the fix and patches, he is now known as Wart. The first quest that he will give you involves you finding his prosthetic in Tottenham Court Road. As you make your way there, you will encounter zombies and golems and you won't easily find the prosthetic. The only way to get it is to kill a huge creature named Tastons. He's nothing like the zombies that disintegrates with just one or two hits. This named creature doesn't go down fast. Make sure you have enough Basic Health Injectors to keep you alive. Try to hit him and then back away because he does succesive attacks that gives huge damage if you are not able to dodge. If you complete the quest, you will get 30 XP and 1 Paladium.
In the second quest, you will need to travel to Covent Garden Approach and kill 12 Fellbones. These creatures can be tough because when they explode, you can get damage as well. The lurk in Covent Garden Approach and they can come undetected at times. Upon completion of the quest, Wart will let you in on his secret and you will also get 1,000 XP, which is quite a lot at this stage.
Note: Make sure that you get all quests that are in one area. For example, if you are ready to go to the Covent Garden Approach, it would be wise to get both George's and Wart's second mission so you can get XP in one go, instead of doing one at a time.
Holborn Access Shafts
Inside the Holborn Access Shafts are a bunch of zombies and golems that are more annoying than deadly. They jump on you from out of nowhere and can attack you from behind if you are not paying much attention. The golems in particular jump around so it's quite hard to lock them in. These creatures drop the capacitors needed to power the device that will open the door to the Covent Garden Approach. You need to pick them up. Once you get all 8 capacitors, head back to Techsmith 101. He will then tell you that the door can now be opened. To fully complete this mission, you will have to talk to Murmur again and only then the door will be opened and you can gain access.
NPCs AND POINTS OF INTEREST
Before you make your way to the Covent Garden Approach, make sure to stock up on Basic Health Injectors and other supplies that you may need. Just go talk to Oarf and he will offer you weapons, armors, and miscellaneous items. Of course, you can only go on a shopping spree if you have enough Palladium. If you're running low on Palladium, head back to the quest areas and kill some more creatures and pick up whatever they drop. Also, if you have been badly hurt from the quest, you can have medic Abigail take care of you.
The trip from Russell Square to Holborn Station may be short, but this is really where the action begins. For low-level quests, they can be a little difficult especially to those who are quite new to FPS. This is the time where you can test how well you master the controls and get an idea of how the AI of creatures work. Surviving in this area, will surely make you better prepared for the next missions. The quests found in the Covent Garden Approach are much intense and you might want to form a group to make things easier, and even more fun. |
